Interview with Husky Loops

Husky Loops are about to set off on their first UK tour. We had a chat with Danio from the band and got to know them ahead of it.

How did the band/ you form?

We formed in London 2/3 years ago, we’re all from the same place (Bologna) and we decided to start a band together in London. Pretty simple story, we liked jamming together and we knew each other. There’s a good connection when you share the same hometown.

Is there a story behind your name?

Not really. We wanted a name no one else had and that could represent our sound, in a way. We spent 8 months looking for a good name and then suddenly we came up with Husky Loops. We were just brainstorming.

We like it of course because it fits with the concept of repetition.

Who would you say have been your biggest influences as a band/artist?

Brian Wilson, Aphex Twin, The Beatles, D’angelo… But it doesn’t mean anything. We listen to different music every week and we’re not super influenced by anyone in particular. R’n’b and hip hop was a big influence for the band recently. Also Frank Ocean inspired us so much.

Would you say you prefer being in the studio recording new material or playing live shows?

We love both. Two completely different experiences, very hard to compare them! Live we’re not very conscious of what we’re doing. In the studio we concentrate a lot.

What was the first music festival you went to – as a fan or indeed as a band?

OUR FIRST FESTIVAL EVER WAS TRUCK FESTIVAL. There was so much MUD a baby got stuck in it and couldn’t get out, a lady broke her knee, I destroyed my nice shoes. It was great.

Do you have a favourite venue/city to play live? (They don’t have to be the same!)
We haven’t played the same venues many times, so I wouldn’t say we have a favourite venue. We do love Nottingham, and Bodega was great. We played there twice.

If you had to only play festivals or headline sets for the rest of your career, which would you prefer?

Headline sets. But in massive places.

Do you have a favourite song to play live at the moment?

Our new intro is pretty cool and super exciting to play. Come and see it
What are your ambitions as a band for the future?

Develop the Husky Loops concept. Play in places where we haven’t played before. Keep writing new music and always push our boundaries. Learn something new with every song, really put our emotions into the music. That’s what matters at the end of it, you know? Being able to really understand what you want to communicate emotionally.

And finally… If you could have written one song in history yourself, what would you have

 preferred it to be?
